Looking dishevelled and bleary eyed, Mr Dreyfuss was escorted out of Sun Hill police station at lunch time today after spending the night under investigation, as he became the latest person implemented in the £1.2 million robbery of his Canley based casino in Checker Street.
Bad Luck
Coming only a week after his home was burgled, during which his wife was seriously assaulted; and less than a month since bad publicity plagued his establishment in the wake of the Perry brothers’ escapades; whereby female winners at Canley Casino were followed home and robbed of their spoils; Mr Dreyfuss is having a month to forget.
“The charges”, according to a statement read out by his lawyer Q.C Giles Olivier, are: “totally unwarranted, and will be treated with the contemptuous silence they deserve. At this point we wish to say nothing other than my client is a well respected, benefactor to this community; we feel there is a hate campaign being waged to besmirch Mr Dreyfuss’ reputation. Rest assured we will not stop until his name is cleared, and the true criminals responsible for these crimes are brought to justice.”
Dreyfuss became a prominent public figure in the mid 1980s, after he exposed corruption in the police force in his native New York. With the help of his colleagues he had to leave the US to start a new life in London. He later met and worked with the daughter of Lord Winfield, a noted member of the secret service and owner of Winfield Manor. Since the move Dreyfuss has more than tripled his fortune; the entrepreneur has many fingers in many pies, and is believed to have enemies throughout London’s underworld. He has strong links to the horse-racing fraternity and is a senior member of the borough’s gambling commission.
Pathological Liar
“Louis Dreyfuss deserves whatever is coming to him” claims former girlfriend and go-go dancer Denise Makepeace, “the man is a pathological liar, absolutely incapable of telling the truth. I haven’t seen him for 15 years, but leopards don’t change their spots. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if he robbed his own casino and beat his own wife. It’s the type of bloke he is.”
