The Cat Saves Canley

Tim Langford went into Canley folklore last night with a goalkeeping display of heroic proportions.

Mini-cab driver Tony, 28, battled through this second round cup match against Crawley despite fracturing his thumb mid-way through the first half.

The Cat

'The Cat' who hasn't played since being sent off towards the end of last season proved all of his critics wrong, by turning in a display Gordon Banks would have been proud of.

A penalty save late into injury time ensured Canley a smooth entrance into the next round after the Blues took the lead through an own goal at the start of the second half.

"He's a true legend" proclaimed Canley manager Keith Walker: "To play as well as he did, with an injury like that was phenominal...guess it's true what they say, all goalies are mad!

After withstanding an onslaught from the Crawley attack, Cattermole single-handedly kept his team in the match with a string of fine saves.

Magnets

"It was just one of those nights" Tony explains: "Like I had magnets in my gloves or something! I knew I'd broken my thumb as soon as it happened but there was no way I was coming off! I just hope it's mended itself in time for the next round!"

Canley's next game is at home against EC United, 3pm this Saturday.
